Founded in 1999 by two lawyers with the desire to fufill the maxim “knowledge is power”, LawAfrica is the regional leader in legal and paralegal publishing. Over this period, the company has undertaken major assignments with government agencies, parastatals, financial services companies, tertiary institutions and individual law firms. LawAfrica has also partnered with international non-governmental organisations and development agencies such as the World Bank and the Swedish International Development Agency, or projects aimed at uplifting the legal profession in the Eastern Africa countries.

LawAfrica is now fully integrated in the region, with capabilities to undertake projects in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and South Sudan. This is part of the company’s vision to be the principal legal and related information provider in Africa.

Selected highlights for the organisation include:

• Created LawAfrica Law Report, the first online law database in East Africa

• Developed the Law Society of Kenya’s first website, giving this important peak body an online presence and international connectivity to partner organisations

• Launched the Compendium of Codes of Legal Practice, Conduct, Ethics and Etiquette in East Africa with the East Africa Law Society

• Established South Sudan’s first law library

• Published the consolidated and official law reports for Uganda and Tanzania

• Publisher of Odunga’s Digest, the first hardbound set of Civil Case Law and Procedure

• Launched the first comprehensive legal index
