Description

As its title suggests, A MAGISTRATE’S MANUAL is  intended primarily for use by Judicial Officers, that is, Judges and Magistrates, particularly those still fresh on the Bench. It is, to borrow a phrase, a Vade Mecum for judicial officers who are new and committed to their work on the Bench. However, it is sufficiently wide to be of use to law students in Universities and Schools of Law, legal practitioners, those others in law-related fields, and those with an interest in the mechanics of the administration of justice. The book covers, in a nutshell, rules of procedures in the institution of criminal and civil cases, the preparation of formal charges in criminal cases and pleadings in civil suits, the trial of such cases, the sentencing process and relevant considerations, control of court proceedings, judicial bias and self-disqualification, court delays, and code of conduct for judicial officers.

Buxton D. Chipeta is a retired Judge of the High Court of Tanzania and author of many law books in the field of civil and criminal procedure, advocacy skills, and administrative law. He is an Advocate of the High Court of Tanzania, a part-time law lecturer at the Law School of Tanzania, and an erstwhile part-time law lecturer at Mzumbe University and the University of Dar es Salaam. He is currently Chairman of the Board Of Directors of the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority, and a Board Member of the Surface and Marine Transport Regulatory Authority.
