In this book, the late author F. J Ayume attempts to explain the practical working of the substantive criminal law in Uganda by examining procedures laid down in various statutes and judicial pronouncements in an intelligible manner thus making reference easy especially to students. Although the book is primarly intended for beginner students of law; advocates, magistrates and law enforcement officers for example the police will find it of useful reference. The late author had his primary and secondary education in Uganda. He joined the then University of East Africa and studied law in Dar-es-Salaam. He spent a brief spell at Columbia University (USA). From 1967, he worked in various capacities in the Ministry of Justice in Uganda and later rose to become the Solicitor General from 1977 to 1983. Afterwards, he was transferred to the Office of The Prime Minister as a Parmanent Secretary. He then returned to the Ministry of Justice as Solicitor General.
